In the wake of a sewage spill that closed a string of beaches from the Palos Verdes Peninsula to Seal Beach in Orange County, the focus now for officials is preventing a repeat. On Dec. 30, an estimated 8.5 million gallons of raw sewage from a broken pipeline sent sludge through the Dominguez Channel to the Port of Los Angeles.
